A114: FREELANCESPARK AI: AN AI-POWERED TEACHING ECOSYSTEM FOR EMPOWERING FUTURE-READY DIGITAL FREELANCERS

The rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI), digital technologies and the gig economy is transforming the way people learn, work and build their careers. While universities have made significant efforts to improve graduate employability, many teaching approaches continue to focus primarily on preparing students for traditional employment rather than equipping them to create opportunities in the evolving digital freelance economy. Consequently, higher education institutions need learning approaches that develop AI literacy, digital competence, adaptability and lifelong learning (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development [OECD], 2023; UNESCO, 2023; World Economic Forum [WEF], 2025).

 To address this need, FreelanceSpark AI was developed as a teaching ecosystem that helps students build the knowledge, skills and confidence required to become future-ready digital freelancers. Rather than positioning AI as the centre of learning, the innovation uses AI as a practical tool that supports students throughout their learning journey. Guided by the SPARK Learning Framework, students progress through five interconnected stages: Skill Discovery, Personal Branding, AI-Augmented Productivity, Real Client Experience, and Keep Growing. Through authentic projects, portfolio development and responsible AI use, students learn by doing while developing skills that extend beyond the classroom.

 More than introducing AI into teaching, FreelanceSpark AI integrates authentic learning experiences, reflective practice and real-world application into a connected learning ecosystem. Its flexible design enables adaptation across different disciplines while supporting curriculum innovation and graduate employability. Ultimately, the innovation seeks to develop confident, adaptable and future-ready graduates who are prepared to create opportunities in an increasingly digital world.
