The Cross-Proverbial Bridge (X-PROB) is a video-gamified pedagogical innovation for ESL learners, that modifies the way to engage with traditional proverbs. Proverbs, although often thought of as "old fashioned," actually contain solid cultural values that are vital to English language learning. To fill this gap, X-PROB connects English animal proverbs with their Malay themes through interactive video checks using Edpuzzle and the cognitive matching activity. Aligning with the theme, the uniqueness of X-PROB lies in its dual-layer cognitive mapping model, which eliminates mechanical memorization and encourages visual story matching and decoding of cultural traits through active interaction. The framework directly addresses critical listening and analytical thinking skills, preparing students to interpret conceptual metaphors and not just literal. X-PROB, built on SDG 4 (Quality Education), that increases access to content that is engaging, student-centred and is designed for different learning styles. The feedback from learners who have completed the gamified activities has been overwhelmingly positive, in terms of increased engagement, better retention of the metaphorical language, and better awareness of cross-cultural issues. The activity outcomes provide on-the-spot diagnostic information so that lecturers are able to continually develop and adjust their strategy for the next class. X-PROB has a high potential in commercialization as a digital learning package standardised for ready-to-use. It is a plug-and-play toolkit that utilizes Edpuzzle video templates, interactive card decks, and assessment rubrics, and can be readily adopted by lecturers with different university English course codes each semester, helping to preserve cultural heritage while empowering future-ready global communicators.
