A4: INV537 Innovation: Transforming Oral Capital Market Education Via Podbean

Dr Nurulashikin Romli Universiti Teknologi MARA Cawangan Johor Kampus Segamat

Traditional capital market law education requires students to articulate complex regulatory frameworks and statutory clauses under the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007 (CMSA 2007). However, standard written examinations predominantly evaluate factual memory rather than dynamic legal reasoning, while traditional in-person oral examinations remain time-consuming and unscalable for large student cohorts. To bridge this critical pedagogical gap, the INV537 Podcast Innovation introduces a paperless and scalable digital oral assessment model hosted on Podbean, engaging 181 students across six cohorts to produce an institutional archive of 543 structured podcast reflections carrying 15% of total course marks. The model systematically guides learners through a three-phase scaffolding process comprising Vocalizing Offence Mapping, statutory CMSA 2007 Interpretation, and Ethical Engagement Advisory Roleplay, all evaluated using a calibrated ten-criteria standardized rubric. Cohort performance demonstrated exceptionally high mastery in early phases with mean scores ranging from 93% to 100%, while driving sharp analytical differentiation in complex advisory scenarios. Its core novelty rests on five key dimensions including strategic advisory roleplay, statutory precision mapping, scalable rubric calibration, industry synchronicity with live Securities Commission Malaysia enforcement reports, and a searchable digital literacy archive. Benefiting society by advancing United Nations SDG 4 for Quality Education and SDG 16 for Market Integrity, this initiative strengthens regulatory awareness and equips future professionals with vital compliance skills. Furthermore, it demonstrates substantial commercialization potential through a licensable higher education assessment toolkit, industry continuous professional development compliance training modules, and capacity-building educator implementation workshops.
