A91: Future Engineer 5.0: Cultivating Graduate Employability Competencies Through Kolb’s Experiential Learning Framework

Engineering graduates are expected to possess strong technical knowledge alongside essential employability skills, particularly in leadership, teamwork, and communication. However, conventional classroom instruction often provides limited opportunities for students to develop these competencies in authentic settings. This study presents Future Engineer 5.0, an innovative teaching aid designed to cultivate graduate attributes through Kolb’s Experiential Learning activities. The innovation focuses on three competencies such as leadership, teamwork, and communication, which are increasingly important for engineering graduates to work effectively in multidisciplinary and professional environments. The effectiveness of the teaching aid was evaluated using a quantitative approach through a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire involving 28 respondents, with five statements assessed for each competency. The findings demonstrated highly positive outcomes across all three attributes. Teamwork achieved the highest overall positive response at 99.3%, followed by leadership at 98.6% and communication at 97.9%. At the individual-item level, positive responses ranged from 96.4% to 100%, indicating consistently high levels of competency development. Leadership demonstrated strong outcomes in initiative, decision-making, motivation, and responsibility. Teamwork showed strong performance in collaboration, contribution of ideas, peer support, receptiveness to feedback, and task completion. Communication outcomes reflected students’ ability to convey technical information, practice active listening, prepare presentations, communicate ideas clearly, and adapt communication styles to different audiences.
