Keyword-to-Sketch Logo Ideation Framework
The increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in design education has enabled rapid idea generation. However, many students have become overly dependent on AI outputs, often bypassing essential ideation and conceptual development stages. This reduces creative thinking, originality, and design justification. To address this issue, the K2S (Keyword-to-Sketch) Logo Ideation Framework was developed as a structured method to guide students through systematic logo ideation before using AI tools. The process begins with analysing a client brief and extracting key information such as brand values, products, and taglines. These are translated into keywords, expanded through brainstorming, and developed into multiple visual concepts and thumbnail sketches. This enables students to generate a wide range of logo ideas while strengthening design thinking skills. The framework promotes independent ideation, enhances creative thinking, and reduces overreliance on AI in early design stages. Its significance lies in positioning AI as a refinement tool rather than a primary idea generator. The novelty of K2S is its structured keyword-to-sketch process that enables up to 20 logo concepts from a single brief. The K2S framework has strong potential for application in graphic design education and can be developed into teaching toolkits, workshop modules, and training resources for academic and professional use.
