The Penan community of Sarawak possesses a rich cultural heritage encompassing traditional lifestyles, settlements, attire, food, and musical instruments, yet this knowledge remains largely inaccessible to younger generations growing up in an increasingly digital environment, with few interactive learning tools designed specifically to introduce indigenous culture to children in an age-appropriate manner. This project addresses that gap by developing an interactive educational gaming application that introduces Penan culture to children aged 5 to 12, combining visual storytelling, colourful illustrations, intuitive user interface design, and gamification elements such as quizzes, mini-games, and reward systems to deliver an engaging and memorable learning experience. The objective is to demonstrate how graphic design and educational technology can work together to preserve and promote indigenous cultural heritage while supporting children's cognitive development and knowledge retention. The novelty of this application lies in its integration of child-centred visual communication principles with culturally grounded content specific to the Penan community, an area currently underserved by existing educational applications in Malaysia. By making cultural knowledge accessible through familiar digital gameplay, the application fosters awareness, appreciation, and respect for indigenous traditions among the younger generation, contributing to the broader preservation of Sarawak's diverse heritage. Beyond its educational and cultural value, the application holds strong commercialization potential as a scalable digital product for schools, museums, tourism boards, and cultural preservation agencies, with the underlying framework adaptable to other indigenous communities across Sarawak and Borneo, positioning it as both a meaningful learning tool and a viable market-ready educational technology solution.
