Cardiovascular disease remains a major global health concern, with myocardial infarction contributing significantly to recurrent cardiovascular events. Following myocardial infarction, adherence to heart-healthy dietary practices is essential for secondary prevention, but many patients experience difficulties in applying dietary recommendations due to limited nutrition literacy and insufficient practical guidance. Digital health education, particularly short educational videos, provides an accessible approach to support continuous dietary learning beyond clinical settings. This study aimed to evaluate the understandability and actionability of NutriHeart, an evidence-based short video series developed for heart-healthy dietary education among post-myocardial infarction patients using the Patient Education Materials Assessment Tool for Audiovisual Materials (PEMAT-A/V). The NutriHeart video series was previously developed using the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation (ADDIE) instructional design model, incorporating evidence-based dietary recommendations, culturally relevant Malaysian food examples, and multimedia learning principles. The completed video series consisted of nine educational modules addressing key components of a heart-healthy dietary pattern. Evaluation was conducted using PEMAT-A/V, which assesses two domains: understandability and actionability. The results demonstrated that the video series achieved satisfactory PEMAT-A/V scores, indicating that the educational materials were easy to comprehend and provided clear actions for users to apply in their daily dietary practices. NutriHeart represents an innovative digital teaching aid that bridges the gap between dietary recommendations and practical food choices among post-myocardial infarction patients. This innovation has potential applications in cardiac rehabilitation programmes, healthcare education, and digital health platforms to support accessible and sustainable nutrition education.
