A56: PeerPulse360: An Automated Peer Assessment And Individual Contribution System

FATIN ADILAH RAZALI UiTM

Group projects are commonly used in the ACC407 Fundamental Financial Accounting and Reporting course to assess students' understanding and application of accounting knowledge. As part of the group project assessment, students are required to complete a peer evaluation to determine each member's individual contribution. The peer evaluation contributes 10% of the overall project mark. Previously, the process was conducted using paper-based evaluation forms. Lecturers had to collect all completed forms, calculate the average score for every student manually and transfer the marks into the assessment record. This process required considerable time and increased the possibility of calculation errors, particularly when handling multiple groups.

PeerPulse360 was developed to assist lecturers in managing this process more systematically. The system uses Google Forms for data collection and Google Apps Script to process the responses automatically. Once students submit their peer evaluation, the system generates the individual contribution scores without requiring manual calculations. The existing assessment rubric and marking criteria remain unchanged, while the scoring process becomes more organised and consistent.

The main purpose of this innovation is to reduce the time spent on administrative work during the assessment process. By automating the calculation of peer evaluation scores, the system helps minimise calculation errors, reduces repetitive manual work and allows lecturers to complete the assessment process more quickly. As the system is developed using Google Workspace applications, it can be implemented without additional software costs and can be adapted for other courses that include peer evaluation as part of group assessment.

PeerPulse360 was developed to support teaching and assessment practices by simplifying the management of peer evaluation. It provides lecturers with a practical approach to managing individual contribution marks while maintaining the existing assessment structure.
