A30: A Game-Based Scrabble Word Puzzle Approach To Strengthening Students’ Understanding Of Newton’s Laws Of Motion

Understanding Newton’s Laws of Motion remains challenging, particularly among diploma-level students, due to the abstract nature of physics and the limitations of conventional teaching approaches. This study presents a gamified, Scrabble-inspired learning tool designed to enhance conceptual understanding through interactive and engaging gameplay. The tool incorporates physics terminology into a word-building activity, allowing students to actively connect key concepts such as force, motion, and inertia. This study employed a pre-test and post-test design, using objective questions to measure students’ understanding before and after the intervention. Diploma students were given a pre-test to assess their initial knowledge, followed by the implementation of the gamified tool, and subsequently a post-test to evaluate learning improvement. The approach is grounded in game-based learning and constructivist theory, promoting active participation, critical thinking, and student engagement. Aligned with SDG 4 (Quality Education), this innovation supports inclusive and effective learning strategies. Findings from related studies suggest that gamification enhances motivation, retention, and academic performance. The results are expected to demonstrate improved conceptual understanding and increased interest in physics, highlighting the potential of gamified word-based tools in making complex scientific concepts more accessible and meaningful.
