NORHASLINDA SHAFIE FACULTY ART AND DESIGN
In STEAM-based education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), particularly in the printmaking and photography disciplines, budgets and material safety are often limited. Here we present the Sustainotype Kit, a teaching tool based on the 19th-century Anthotype technique. This method replaces toxic chemicals with photosensitive, plant-based colour pigments. The research and development of this innovation focus on two main groups: school students who need a safe, hands-on learning experience, and students at Institut Pengajian Tinggi Awam (IPTA) who need affordable, eco-friendly studio materials. The kit guide is protected by the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO). It reduces the cost of higher education and promotes the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 and 12. It is a competitive hybrid product for the education and sustainability markets due to its commercialization potential and two versions (basic and professional).
