Abstract
English language learning among young learners often relies on conventional textbook-based approaches that may reduce students’ engagement and motivation, particularly in learning grammar components such as verbs. To address this issue, “Catch The Verb” was developed as a beach-themed interactive educational board game that provides an engaging alternative to traditional teaching methods for Year 2 primary school students. The product aims to enhance students’ mastery of English verbs and vocabulary while improving their speaking, problem-solving, and communication skills through game-based learning. The game consists of a game board, a spinning wheel, coloured seashell tokens, and 75 playing cards comprising Question, Power, and Punishment cards, which encourage active participation, collaboration, and healthy competition while reinforcing language learning through beach-related contexts. The novelty of “Catch The Verb” lies in its integration of curriculum-based English language content with interactive gameplay that combines movement, strategic thinking, and collaborative learning in a single educational resource specifically designed for young learners. Unlike conventional learning materials, the product transforms grammar learning into an enjoyable, student-centred experience that increases motivation, confidence, and classroom engagement. The product also benefits society by supporting teachers with an effective and affordable teaching aid while encouraging children to develop language proficiency through active learning. Furthermore, “Catch The Verb” has strong commercialization potential as it can be marketed to primary schools, educational institutions, tuition centres, and parents as an innovative educational board game suitable for both classroom instruction and home-based learning.
