The halal program has become a crucial offering at higher learning institutions, including Universiti Teknologi MARA, owing to its essential role in developing human capital in the halal industry, a niche segment that contributes to Malaysia's economic growth. On this occasion, the emphasis on Islamic law across all subjects offered in this halal program is necessary, given the program's close relationship with Islamic law. As a result, al-‘urf (customary practice), as one of the important sources of Islamic legal deduction, serves as a significant lesson for halal students not only in specific Shariah subjects but also in halal management subjects. This requires the student to possess the knowledge and apply it accordingly. However, since the program is applied in nature, it was found to be difficult for the student to align with the principle compared to the normal Shariah law program offered at the tertiary level. With time and exposure, this framework emphasizes innovative pedagogy, combining classical jurisprudence with modern instructional design to enhance student engagement, critical thinking, and practical application in halal industry management. The approach will not only improve students’ skills in Islamic legal deduction but also enhance their ability to apply Shariah-based reasoning across a range of halal contexts.
