The first edition of this mini dictionary was created in 2025 based on a comparative linguistics framework. In 2026, the mini dictionary is revised and updated based on feedback from users. The original list of 100 commonly confused English words - words that have different meaning in general and scientific contexts is then increased to 120 words in the current one. It includes selected words, such as adapt, emit, field, and increase, and presented through parallel definitions, usage of the words in general and scientific context, and colourful illustrations to support students’ visual understanding and long-term retention of STEM vocabulary. Each word is also labelled according to its specific field, such as biology, chemistry, physics, or food technology, helping learners to connect vocabulary with subject knowledge better. The dictionary is presented in a table format and uses dynamic QR code which links to mini quizzes and additional examples. This combination of structured content and digital resources provides a multimodal learning experience that connects printed materials with interactive learning activities. The main innovation lies in its multimodal design, which helps ESL learners and other users identify and interpret polysemous vocabulary in everyday English and academic scientific contexts. It aims to reduce language barriers in STEM learning, support cross-disciplinary learning, and improve the clarity and accuracy of scientific communication. It also serves as a long-term learning tool for developing a better understanding of the relationship between general and scientific English.
